My First
Surgery
My First Surgery was an idea submitted by pediatric surgeon Robert Baird for a McGill University mobile app development challenge, organized by the McGill Centre for Biomedical Innovation. The simplicity and necessity of the idea convinced the judges to support development of the app. Over the course of 6 months, Robert worked with the team of software developers, graphic designers and a number of generous volunteers to help make this idea come to life on the iPad screen.

Robert is a pediatric surgeon at the Montreal Children's Hospital in Canada.
He came up with the idea of My First Surgery to improve the experience of hispatients as they prepare, undergo and recover from an operation. The ultimate hope is that the app may improve efficiency and may reduce misunderstandings that result in OR cancellations (for breaking fasting instructions, for example).
More importantly, as a parent of children who have undergone procedures, he believes that this app will play an important role in making an operation as smooth and easy as it can be for children and their parents.

Sathy was the associate director at the McGill Centre for Biomedical Innovation and launched the mHealth Challenge to see if there was interest in the University community for developing mobile apps that could have an impact on health care.
He worked with the My First Surgery team to find funding, team members and to help get it launched.
Sathy's role at McGill University was to help exciting ideas from research have an impact on society, either in the clinic or the marketplace.
stradigi is a digital agency that developed the software for the application.
